Lampadaires
‘Lampadaires’ gives a bleak urban space the cosy atmosphere of a living room.
The impact of urban design on our appreciation of urban public space can hardly be over-estimated. Nevertheless, few town planners call upon imaginative urban designers to come up with a unique piece of furniture for the city. They prefer to rely upon the catalogues of companies that determine what cities all over the world should look like. ‘Lampadaires’ shows how urban designers can use the present design as a layer on which they superimpose their own creativity, and by doing so help people relate more to the public space they use.
Marleen Van den Broek, Tom Tastenhoye and Els Vandenbergh from Sint-Lucas School of Architectuur desinged the ‘Lampadaires’. They are outdoor lampshades in bright colours with easy means of attachments to allow it to be mounted upon almost any lamppost.
The lampshades were first used on Brussels’ sité administrative in 2004, and are currently available in Brussels for other use.
