Networkbook

The Networkbook for urban p/arts, published at the cusp of 2003, featured 42 initiatives Urban Initiatives in London.

“The idea behind the networkbook is to provide a showcase for the ‘new work’ going on in public areas in an emerging field involving art, sport, dance, radio, tactical media, music and more. We hope it will further the development of this particular art form by putting a number of practitioners in contact with each other, so allowing them to pool human, financial and intellectual resources. Hence the networkbook is both a little black book of valuable contacts, and an inspiring guide to cutting edge art in London.

The editors have tried to investigate this work from an overtly urban perspective, and hope thereby to provoke insights into the nature of the contemporary city. Specifically, we hope to demonstrate the way cultural engagement with public spaces enhances the untapped potential of these sites. Public space is defined here in its broadest possible sense – to include roads, airwaves, stations, estates, parks, squares and virtual space – and that is one reason for the diversity of the activities represented.” (from the introduction to the Networkbook).

The Networkbook is available in shops from Rotterdam to Barcelona and from Belfast to Berlin.
