Repertorium 1998
In 1998 Bunker Souple published the first Repertorium, a directory of new urban initiatives in Brussels.
“Numerous initiatives emerge in a Brussels dismembered by an irresponsible urbanism and with an authority compartmentalized into many faces. Despite the difficulty to draw a line in these initiatives, they share some characteristics: conviviality, own initiative, proximity, diversity, … A reforming vitality and an insatiable energy come from these initiatives. Meanwhile, this vitality, the sole creator of new places to live, is weakened by the pretences established by the technocratic city.
The Repertorium 1998 was one of the stages of Bunker Souple. Consider it as a means of communication that facilitates exchange, cerates new synergies and demands recognition for the new urban initiatives. As directory as a means of communication implies that the list is not exhaustive, on the contrary. This Repertorium only gives an indication of part of the multitude of possible manifestations in the urban tissue. ” (from the introduction to Repertorium 1998)
The Repertorium was the first attempt to use a publication to promote and support urban initiatives, and was followed by publications in 2000 (Brussels) and 2004 (London).
